Help Me Sleep: The latest research on infant sleep

Discover the latest research on infant sleep in this webinar – the first in a series A Better Start National Science Challenge is co-hosting with Whānau Āwhina Plunket.

In this webinar we look at:

– What is normal sleep, helping babies to fall asleep, and keeping them asleep
– The relationship between infant sleep and maternal mental health
– A look at infant sleep through the lens of Māori and Pasifika whānau

Make sure you watch through to the end for a treat – our facilitator Kawiti Waetford is a trained opera singer and surprises our audience with the beautiful Māori lullaby he sings to his young daughter to help her to sleep. It’s not to be missed!

Our guest speakers for this webinar are:

– Professor Harriet Hiscock – Group Leader of Health Services at Melbourne’s Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

– Associate Professor Rosalina Richards – Deputy Director of Va’a o Tautai, Division of Health Sciences, at the University of Otago. She leads the Pacific stream of A Better Start’s Moemoeā project, which aims to develop a ‘sleep toolkit’ tailored to Māori and Pacific whānau.

Dr Justine Camp – Research fellow with the Healthy Weight theme for A Better Start National Science Challenge. She leads the Māori stream on the Challenge’s Moemoeā sleep project.

A Better Start National Science Challenge is hosting more webinars on child health and wellbeing throughout 2021-22.
